Ukiyo-e Collection
Ukiyo-e — "pictures of the floating world" — were Edo-period woodblock prints, carved into cherry wood and layered by hand. The technique gave the art its look: flat colour, strong silhouettes, clear negative space. Hokusai gave us the Great Wave; Hiroshige gave us fifty-three views of the road to Kyoto; Kuniyoshi gave us cats. Our ukiyo-e designs borrow that structure with a faded vintage finish, on t-shirts, hoodies, caps and tote bags.
